What led Robert Kanaan to American Income Life Insurance Company (AIL) in 2005? It was a family affair. After graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, he had a big decision to make. “My older sister was working for American Income Life at the time,” he recalls, “and I saw how well she was doing. Like most 22-year-olds, I had no idea what I wanted to do after graduating university, so I decided to work for a year before going back to school to start an MBA program. I actually started with AIL during my last semester at Saint Mary’s. Then that one year turned into two, and now, here I am after 13.”
“I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished,” states Robert. “I opened or helped open and set up multiple Businesses in different cities and provinces like Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ottawa, and Montreal. I’ve also finished among the top mag’s in the Company for many years and was the #4 International Master General Agent in 2014. But my true success with American Income Life,” he continues, “comes in the form of others hitting their goals and dreams. When I see people I hired living better and doing better, I know I have in some way made a positive impact in their lives … and that’s what matters most.”
What’s the biggest reward for Robert as a member of the AIL family? “It’s the ability to move up based on performance and attitude versus tenure like in most organizations,” he says. “Every day I meet people who are frustrated with the lack of growth opportunities available to them in their current careers. That is never the case at American Income Life. You are always in the driver’s seat, and you decide how fast or slow you want to get to where you are going,” he emphasizes.
Robert has valuable advice for anyone considering a career with American Income Life. “The systems we have in place are there to help you win,” he states. “There is no need to overcomplicate the process. Find people in the organization who are in a position you can see yourself being in and learn everything they have to teach you … and give it all you’ve got for at least one year,” he adds.
Free time for Robert is time with his wife and daughter. “I like staying active and traveling,” he says. “Additionally, I’m involved with the local children’s hospital and my church. If a child is in need, especially medically, I feel it is my obligation to give. My Businesses also provide financial support for local charities and local festivals,” he adds.
“The goal of my Businesses is to provide ‘Opportunity Unlimited’ to others as it was provided to me years ago,” affirms Robert. “AIL products provide immediate financial support for the people who need them the most. And you don’t have to leave home in the Maritimes to find an opportunity that financially supports you and your family,” he adds. “We are on pace for our best year ever, so if you are from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, or PEI and have a great attitude and work ethic, I would love to meet you.”
